definition: a street fight between rival teenage gangs; a grudge fight

etymology: Middle English romblen, perhaps from Middle Dutch rommelen or from Middle Low German rummeln

sentence: John, who was an exceptionally strong and tough greaser, was expected to come for the bi-annual New York rumble, but to the greasers' dismay, he fell ill and was unable to make it.
